Christmas: Stockings for everyone!

My folks are going Down Under this year to spend Christmas with my brother and sister-in-law. I thought of sending them something for Christmas, something that will tie in with our Christmas here as well. I wanted something that I could make, something that is light and safe to travel to Aus with, and something fun!

Christmas Stockings!

After spending hours on Pinterest (not that I mind) I found the perfect pattern here. It’s made from 17 hexagon granny squares that gets sewn up. I love making granny squares because each square is like a little project of its own.

Here’s what I did:
Use DC wool in three colours: red, white and green
Crochet hook size: 4mm

Make 17 of these hexagons.

With your choice of colour for round 1, chain 5, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: chain 3 to count as first double crochet. Work 11 more double crochets into round. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3. Fasten off first colour. (12 stitches)

Round 2: Attach round 2 colour with a slip stitch to any stitch. Chain 3 to count as the first double crochet.
3 double crochet in the next stitch, double crochet in next stitch (do this 5 times)
3 double crochet in last stitch
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3. Fasten off. (24 stitches)

Round 3: Attach round 3 colour with a slip stitch to the middle of any 3 double crochet group.
Chain 3 to count as the first double crochet, work 2 more double crochet in same stitch.
Double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, 3 double crochet in next stitch (do this 5 times)
Double crochet in each of the last 3 stitches.
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3. Fasten off. Weave in ends. (36 stitches)

Assembly: Use the same colour wool as your round three join the hexagons as seen below. It looks a bit weird, but it does eventually start looking like a boot!

I’m going to be making stockings for my entire family, including my furbabies. That’s a lot of stockings, but at the end of the day, it’ll be great!
